How We Work

LET'S TALKWHAT WE DO

Every new client relationship begins with a phone call to see if we are a good fit.

We will talk about your business, current website, goals, frustrations, timeline, and budget. You can ask questions and learn more about how we work before making a decision.

If we can help, we will explain the next steps. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you honestly.

Once you decide to move forward, we need to learn more about your business.

We will send you a questionnaire covering your services, customers, goals, competitors, branding, website needs, and other important details.

Some clients prefer to complete it on their computer so they can think carefully and write detailed answers. Others prefer an informal meeting where we ask the questions and take notes.

Discovery meetings can happen by phone, Zoom, or in person. If you are local, meeting in person is usually the best option.

We will also begin collecting your logo, photos, written content, account access, and anything else that can help us understand your business.

Most new client relationships begin with a custom WordPress website and a simple maintenance plan.

Standard website projects usually begin around $2,000 and can often be completed within about 30 days. Your timeline will depend on the size of the website, project scope, content, feedback, and how quickly we receive the information we need.

We begin by setting up your website on the proper hosting platform.

Your hosting, domain, and other important accounts will be created in your name whenever possible. You will always have access and ownership.

If you already have a website, we may need to work with your current web designer or hosting company to collect account information, website files, domain access, and other records.

Once everything is set up, we use the information from discovery to design your home page and an internal page.

We send these pages to you for review before building the rest of the website. This is the time to be picky. We want to get the colors, layout, wording, photos, and overall direction right.

Changes are expected during this stage. Once you approve the direction, we use it to complete the rest of the website.

We finish the main pages, navigation, forms, content, and other features needed for the website to function.

If your budget or deadline requires it, we can divide development into stages. The first stage will include everything needed to launch a useful, professional website.

Additional service pages, location pages, blog posts, advanced features, and other improvements can be completed later.

ou will have a chance to review the completed website and request final changes.

Before launch, we test the website on phones, tablets, and computers. We also check the navigation, links, forms, and basic technical setup.

Every new website launches with a mobile-friendly design and basic on-page SEO based on the project scope. Ongoing SEO is a separate service.

Once you approve the website, we launch it.

Every website requires a basic monthly maintenance plan after launch.

The plan keeps your account active and allows us to handle essential WordPress, theme, plugin, backup, and security needs. It also means you have someone available when a problem or future update comes up.

The current basic maintenance plan is $40 per month. Website changes, new content, SEO, and other ongoing work are billed separately.

Ongoing SEO and marketing are optional.

By the time your website launches, we will have a much better understanding of your business and what needs attention next. That could include:

  • Google Business Profile work
  • Technical, local, or on-page SEO
  • Service and location pages
  • Blog posts and FAQs
  • Email or social media marketing
  • Paid advertising
  • Print design and promotional products

After launch, you can take a financial break or continue with ongoing work. You can adjust, pause, or restart this work at any time.

You choose your monthly budget. Most ongoing clients spend between $100 and $1,000 per month.

Your budget affects how much we can complete and how quickly we can move. A smaller budget may cover one priority at a time. A larger budget allows us to work on several areas during the month.

We usually recommend the order of work based on your goals, urgency, competition, and our experience. You can always tell us what matters most to you. You are ultimately in charge.

Many clients prefer to give us a budget and trust us to work through the priorities.

Send Us One Quick Update

One short message from you can give us everything we need to get started. Email or text us a photo and a few sentences about a recent project, new service, customer question, event, promotion, or business update. Voice messages and rough notes are welcome. Nothing needs to be polished.

Joe
Hey Ande, here’s the deck we finished up for the Johnson family. Have at it!

Ande
You got it! Creating a portfolio page on your website and new post on all social media platforms.

We Create & Distribute Regular Updates

We turn your update into clear, useful content and share it across the channels we manage for you.

For example: Website blog post or portfolio addition → Social media post → Google Business Profile update → Customer email

You do not need to create a separate idea for every marketing channel. We handle the writing, editing, design, formatting, and posting.

We’re Ready for Priority Shifts and Bigger Ideas

Maybe you have a new sale, service, idea, service area, or business goal. Maybe your priorities have changed and you want us to focus on something different.

Send us a few sentences explaining what is happening. We can help turn that information into:

  • A new website page
  • An email or text campaign
  • A flyer, postcard, brochure, or other printed piece
  • Social media posts and graphics
  • A Google or social media ad
  • Signs, event materials, or promotional products

The more you keep us informed, the more we can do to support your business.

How We Communicate Your Expert Knowledge

YOU are the expert in your industry. You know your customers, services, processes, and the details that make your business different. We need direction, feedback, photos, customer questions, and information only you and your staff know.

We use that knowledge to communicate your expertise clearly and accurately on your behalf. We organize it, improve it, and turn it into something useful for your website and marketing.

We don’t need you to become an expert in websites, SEO, or marketing. We do need your input so we can understand what you do, why it matters, and how to explain it to the people you want to reach.

We know you are busy, so we try to keep questions and interruptions to a minimum. However, we still need your input and approval at important points.

The faster we receive the information and feedback we need, the faster your work can move forward.

Honest Hourly Billing

At Truman Web, we don’t do project-based pricing. In the website and marketing industry, there are a lot of shady, deceitful people, and so we decided long ago to keep pricing as honest and transparent as humanly possible.

Website, SEO, and marketing work is billed hourly because every business has different needs. You pay for the time actually spent on your project.

We track our time and send an invoice around the first of each month for work completed during the previous month. We leave comments on each time slot so you know what we did. If we work on your business for 7 minutes, you’ll be charged for 7 minutes.

We discuss your priorities and budget before beginning. Estimates are not fixed prices, but we will keep your budget in mind and discuss any major change in scope.

If you need to spread a project out over time, we can divide the work into stages.

Outside Costs

Your Truman Web invoice covers the time spent working for your business. Outside expenses are separate. These may include:

  • Website hosting and domains
  • Premium software and subscriptions
  • Google, Facebook, or Instagram ad costs
  • Printing and postage
  • Signs, apparel, and promotional products

Whenever possible, these accounts and purchases are placed in your name and charged directly to your credit or debit card. This gives you ownership and control.

With your permission, we can store your card in a protected digital vault for approved business purchases. This keeps us from interrupting you every time a hosting renewal, software charge, print order, or similar expense comes up.

FAQs

Websites are living, breathing mechanisms. Between the host, the platform, the theme, and the plugins, there may be dozens of code authors working together to make your website function. As updates are released, these massive blocks of code must work together for the site to stay live and functioning.

That’s where we come in. Every day, our systems make sure your site is up to date. If it’s not up to date, it can either break the site or cause a vulnerability that hackers love to take advantage of. We require at least the most basic maintenance plan once we build your site.

We do not offer eCommerce buildouts. If you already have your online store hosted and maintained somewhere else, we can easily create links to your sore or embed your store onto our site in most cases.

Depending on several factors such as budget, location, and competition, many businesses take 6-12 months of consistent work before seeing meaningful traction. SEO is not fast and sexy, it takes time no matter what the budget. Think: investing in the stock market.

Types of Businesses
We Commonly Work With

We work with shops, restaurants, venues, and other businesses that depend on local customers. Your website should reflect the experience you offer and make it easy for people to visit, shop, book, or learn more.

We help nonprofits and community organizations clearly explain their mission, promote programs and events, collect donations, and connect people with ways to get involved.

We create welcoming, easy-to-use websites for schools, childcare centers, camps, tutors, and family-focused organizations. We help parents find the information they need and feel confident reaching out.
